NATION MOURNS LOSS OF CALYPSO WRITER
The calypso fraternity is again in mourning…
This time one of its most prolific writers has passed away.
Rupert ‘Likkle Man’ Pelle died last night after a period of prolonged illness.
He has written many songs for calypsonians in Antigua and Barbuda. His legacy is particularly lasting for the work he has done with junior calypsonians.
A native of the Point and Villa community, Pelle produced songs that claimed the junior title for eight unbroken years. From 2000 until 2007, he wrote the winning tunes for three junior Monarchs in Lady Challenger, Queen Thalia and Lyricks Man.
Lady Thalia would later go on to become one of the few females who has won the Calypso Monarch crown.
Pelle was a major contributor to the country’s cultural and community development and for this he was honoured by the nation.
Just last year he was named to be a member of the most precious order of princely heritage during the Independence celebrations for his contribution to culture and community development.
Receiving the award on his behalf was his wife Carol Pelle.
Our condolences to his family and the members of the calypso fraternity.
