PM Browne Says Morris Bay Poses No Threat To Villagers

The country’s head of government says the proposed multi-billion dollar resort development at Morris Bay poses no threats to villagers or their livelihoods.

Prime Minister, the Hon. Gaston Browne’s comments come in response to villagers in Old Road expressing concerns that they would lose access to the nearby beach once the project begins.

He says he is aware that it has caused some contention, but adds that laws will not be broken in any way and studies will be conducted to test the sustainability of the project.

Prime Minister Browne says he has no objections against public consultations, but is weary of individuals who are deliberately trying to create confusion.

In July, government signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Sheikh Tariq Faisal Al Qassimi of Dubai.
The document was signed on behalf of Al Caribi Development Limited for a US $120 million resort, which is expected to break ground before the end of the year.
The resort will be overseen by a joint venture company, formed with the government, but should the project fail to perform within a specified period, the land would be given back to the government.
