PM Spencer Keeps close eye on the Unrest in Venezuela
Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Dr. the hon. Baldwin Spencer joins his CARICOM colleagues in keeping a close eye on the growing political unrest in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
CARICOM is concerned about student-led protests over social and economic conditions in Venezuela, which have led to violent confrontations, including the deaths of three people.
The nation’s leader is equally concerned.
He joins his CARICOM counterparts in calling for respect for the democratically elected government.
The Prime Minister believes that citizens have the right to air their views and differences; however, he says this must be done within the constitutional framework and not through violent demonstrations.
He calls on all parties to take the necessary steps to refrain from any further action that would hinder a peaceful resolution and a return to peace and calm in the country.
