Sir Gerald Watt Expects Meaningful Debates.
Newly appointed Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sir Gerald Watt QC, is calling on Members of the House of Representatives to engage in constructive and meaningful debates.
Speaking shortly taking his seat in the House, Sir Gerald says the focus should be on debating the bills and less politics.
He adds that he accepts that the responsibility as Speaker of the House is a serious one.
Sir Gerald also believes that the Standing Orders, which date back to 1967, should be revised since currently they inhibit proper debate and control
