Spain Commits To CARICOM
St. John’s, Antigua – The Government of Spain is committed to fostering political and other cooperative dialogue with Caricom Member States.
In an exchange between CARICOM Heads of Government and Spain’s Prime Minister, the Most Excellent Mariano Rojoy Brey, a specially invited guest to the 35thCaricom Heads of Government Meeting, there was a clear commitment of by both parties to maintain a strategic long term relationship.
The formalization of the relations between Caricom and Spain was inaugurated in July 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago through the Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement.
During the forum, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda and Caricom Chairman, the Hon. Gaston Browne congratulated Spain on its accomplishments and adds that the regional body is equally looking forward to deepening the existing dialogue with Spain.
A joint statement indicates that attention will be given to the advancement of poverty, advocating for a rules based system of international trade, ensuring that the specific needs and vulnerabilities of Middle Income Countries (mics) are taking into account on the part of the different international and cooperation agencies and increasing commercial exchange and investment between the countries particularly in the tourism and energy sectors.
