Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Begin

Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games get underway today and will be the biggest Games ever with a record number of athletes set to take part.  A high of 4,403 athletes will compete. 
 
Home nation Japan has the biggest delegation of athletes – 254.
 
There will also be a record-setting number or female athletes.  There are 1,853 female athletes at the Games, a near 11 per cent increase on Rio 2016.
 
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will take place between 24 August and 5 September and will feature 539 medal events across 22 sports.
