“THAT ACTUALLY SCARES ME” – ACTING CMO RESPONDS TO COVID RISE

Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Terri Ann Joseph is concerned about the sharp rise in COVID-19 cases and says based on current trends, the country could see a new weekly record. The highest number of cases recorded in a single week since the start of the pandemic came in the first quarter of 2021 with 171 infections. Dr Joseph told ABS in a special programme on Monday evening 134 cases were recorded in a week earlier this month and is concerned a new weekly record could be in the offing if the trend continues. She is urging members of the populace to adhere to the safety protocols and to get vaccinated.
Meanwhile, Dr Joseph says 17 of the 18 individuals now in hospital with the viral infection are unvaccinated.
