TRANSPORT BOARD TWEAKS SYSTEM FOR ADMINISTERING FUEL SUBSIDY TO BUS OPERATORS
The Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board says it is working closely with West Indies Oil Company on improving the way the 25 per cent fuel subsidy is provided to public bus operators.
Bus and taxi operators have been receiving a 25 per cent subsidy to cushion the impact of the recent petrol price increase so there is no fare hike.
However, cabinet examined the matter this week after bus operators voiced concern with the way the arrangement is being administered.
The Antigua and Barbuda Bus Association has recommended to the Transport Board that instead of using a voucher system, their members should be allowed to use their IDs to access petrol at the discounted rates at three designated service stations.
