WTO GAMING DISPUTE STILL OF HIGH PRIORITY
Sir Ronald who is also Antigua & Barbuda’s ambassador to the United States says resolving the long-running gaming dispute with the United States is still of high priority.
Antigua & Barbuda won the right to compensation of $21 million annually from the US, after the World Trade Organization upheld this country’s complaint that U.S. laws were discriminatory.
Sir Ronald says over the past two years, US trade representatives have been pre-occupied with huge trade battles initiated by the Trump administration.
These include the ongoing trade war with the People’s republic of China and the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement among the US, Canada and Mexico.
So we have been unable to sit them down to look at our matter with the kind of focus that we would like and what we do not want is to enter into the discussion with them when they are not fully focused on our matter
He says this country has kept the matter alive in the World Trade Organization by making regular appearances to report to the dispute settlement body that the United States has not settled on the matter.
