A large group of Antiguans is setting off for Barbuda as part of a volunteer exercise to help with the clean up and rebuilding efforts on the sister island.
It actually forms part of the activities for the country’s 36th anniversary of political independence.
Organisers dedicated today Barbuda Day and came up with the idea to solicit the support of Antiguans in the relief and rebuilding programme now taking place on the sister island.

Around 70 volunteers are set to make the trip via the ferry and a boat owned by tour operator Eli Fuller.
Public Relations Officer with the Festivals Commission, Azara Lavia, when contacted for comment, says she was pleased with the response to their calls for volunteers as persons willingly came forward.
The National office of Disaster Services will be playing a role in the activity while the volunteers move around Codrington in helping to augment the relief activities that have been ongoing since the passage of hurricane Irma.
Meantime Lavia says in general she is very pleased with how the activities of the independence celebrations have been going and is encouraging all citizens to continue giving their support.
The programme continues this evening with a theatrical production that recounts the story of abolitionist Harriet Tubman at the Dean William Lake Cultural Centre.
