Good news for Barbuda, as Government moves to speed up the recovery and rebuilding efforts.
According to reports, potable running water is to be restored to Codrington this weekend, and electricity will follow in a week.
Also major among the developments are that 100 solar lights are to be shipped over to the sister island.
Following Thursday’s cabinet meeting, agreements are to be reached with Barbudan builders to construct the bases on which the lights are to be mounted.
The NODS will exercise management and control over these builders and contractors.
NODS Director Philmore Mullin was invited to Cabinet Thursday to provide an update.
Government is calling on Barbudans who wish to participate in the rebuilding to get in touch with the NODS office since its an opportunity for employment.
Mullin has reported to cabinet that 18 bundles of plywood, stacks of corrugated galvanize, nails, screws and other building supplies are being shipped to Barbuda.
The supply on the ground can last for weeks, even if the slightly damaged homes were being repaired.
Buildings with multiple apartments are to be repaired and rented so that work crews can have a place to stay.
Repairs are ongoing at the Sir Mc Chesney George School. Work is also continuing at the airport terminal and the perimeter fence.
