Government Aims to Close Unemployment Gap

Government will conduct a survey of national Labour force aimed at closing the unemployment gap in the country.

The Minister of National Security and Labour Dr. Errol Cort, says work is on going with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to calculate the national labour rates.

He says the economic recession, has triggered unemployment, the world over, but he believes unemployment numbers locally will decline as more and more development projects unfold.

The Labour Minister speaks of ongoing strategic work experience programs established by his ministry targeting young people.

Minister Cort has said that at least two other OECS Countries have unemployment rates of 30 and 40 percent.

Antigua and Barbuda has an unemployment rate of about 15 percent.
