Government Gives A Commitment To Make The Fire Brigade A Professional Outfit

Public Safety Minister, Hon Steadroy Benjamin says the government is placing much emphasis on the country’s fire service to make it a professional body.

Minister Benjamin was at the time speaking at the annual awards ceremony for the Antigua Fire Brigade at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium Saturday night.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Wendell Robinson, who also addressed the ceremony, is endorsing moves to separate the fire department from the regular police force.

The Acting Commissioner also announced a number of promotions in the fire service. He says since his appointment there have been over one hundred promotions in both the regular police and the fire service. He is committed to ending the practice when vacancies exist in the force and not being filled as a matter of policy.
For his path, Acting Fire Chief Superintendent Elvis Weaver, says he is happy to participate in a ceremony where officers are rewarded for the work they put in.
