Shootings mar 2013 Last Lap

After an almost incident free carnival, the anticipation of revelers for the last lap jump up were dashed.

Police are now investigating two shootings which caused law enforcement to cancel the final feature of Antigua’s festival last lap and left three people nursing gunshot wounds at the Mount St. Johns Medical Center.

In one incident, a 23 year old Green Bay man reported that that while he was walking towards “Shanty Town” in the East Bus Station area, he heard several loud explosions which sounded like gunshots. He further reported that as ran for cover he realized that he had been shot in his neck, and both legs.

Coming out of the same incident, a 26year old Freemans Village man reported that he was in the said area when two men got into a fight and one withdrew a firearm and began firing shots. He later discovered that he was shot and wounded in his right shoulder.

A 62yr old woman of New Winthropes is also nursing a gunshot wound to her right shoulder, after she was allegedly struck by a stray bullet as a result of the said shooting incident. -30-
