2. The Barbuda Council To Intensify Its Campaign To Woo Foreign Direct Investment
The newly constituted Barbuda Council is seeking to stimulate the island’s economy as its top priority.
Chairman David Shaw says the Barbuda Council must mobilize an aggressive campaign to attract foreign direct investment into Barbuda in order to stimulate economic growth.
Shaw also wants to keep expenditure under control until the finances of the council improve. He says he wants to have an assessment of the Council’s expenditure and procurement practices to determine how things may be done more efficiently thus cutting cost.
Shaw says he is determined to ensure that the Council operates in a manner that will deliver services to Barbudans in the most efficient manner possible.
Chairman Shaw’s comments were similar to those made by the Barbuda Representative, Hon. Arthur Nibbs. The Minister of Barbuda Affairs says Barbuda has no choice but to attract foreign investment.
Nibbs says introducing new tax measures is not an option…so foreign investments is the only other course of action.
