NATION’S EDUCATION SECTOR RECEIVES PRAISE

The nation celebrates two milestones in its education sector.
These are the opening of the UWI 4th Landed Campus and the 25th anniversary of the Board of Education.
Former Prime Minister Sir Lester Bird lauds the enactment of the education levy, saying it has played a significant role in developing the country’s education sector.
Meanwhile, Sir Lester says having the Five Islands campus of the University of the West Indies on island is a seminal achievement and he’s very proud.

Sir Lester says the university is going to create an element in the society, of the next generation particularly, of how we can elevate and develop ourselves.
He also gave kudos to the Antigua and Barbuda International Institute of Technology ABIIT and the Antigua and Barbuda institute of Continuing Education ABICE.
The Former Prime Minister is of the view that ABICE should be housed at the old Navy Base facility and form part of the 4th Landed Campus.
Sir Lester says the university will be a beacon of excellence.
