OB/GYN URGES WOMEN TO GET REGULAR PAP SMEARS
Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Nicole Roberts is encouraging women ages 21-65 to continue seeking regular health checks.
A Pap Smear, she says, is recommended every 3 years. However, she tells ABS when testing includes screening for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), testing is instead recommended every 5 years once no abnormalities have been detected previously.
HPV which is transmitted sexually can lead to the development of Cervical Cancer in women in later years. Dr. Roberts says Cervical Cancer is the third most prevalant cancer in the Caribbean.
