STUDENT AT CENTRE OF HAIR CONTROVERSY NOW ATTENDING ANOTHER SCHOOL; ADVENTISTS RESPOND
The president of the South Leeward Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists says the student who was not allowed at the New Bethel Academy last week because of a hair controversy is now attending another school.
Dr Carson Greene revealed the information during an interview on the ABS Evening News on Tuesday, noting this amounts to an amicable resolution with which both parent and school are reasonably satisfied.
He also rubbished suggestions the school is being discriminatory against Rastafari, insisting the school has rules similar to other institutions.
A ruckus erupted in some quarters when the child was not allowed in classes because of what was determined to be non-compliance with the institution’s dress code.
Dr Greene is also expressing grave concern over the Government’s suggestion that it could introduce legislation to prevent schools enforcing these policies.
He says this would infringe religious freedom.
