Antigua Celebrates Nurses Week 2014
Nurses in Antigua and Barbuda join the rest of the world in celebrating this noble profession and Florence Nightingale
The week is being celebrated under the theme “Nurses a force for Change” from May 12 to 18 to include the birth date of Florence Nightingale, known as the founder of modern nursing in recognition of her contributions to the profession.
Nurse Juliet De La Bastide describing nursing as a note worthy profession encourages both males and females to aspire to nursing.
She outlines the requirements:
The activities commence with an opening and lighting ceremony tonight at the Nurses Association Building, a media day on Tuesday. Tuesday will also include a t-shirt day as well as on Friday.
Nurse Uretha Gasper highlights the remainder of the week.
The annual pageant will this year be replaced by a talent show at Simon Boulevard. The how will feature a variety of talents to include singing, dancing, hat show, skits and fashion show.
Saturday sees the nurses celebrating with a grand banquet and awards ceremony at the Rex Halcyon Cove honouring its members of over 25 years of service.
The week culminates with a church service at the Swetes Weslyan Holiness Church on Sunday
