NATION MOURNS DEATH OF FORMER LABOUR COMMISSIONER HESKETH WILLIAMS

Tributes are pouring in for former labour commissioner, Hesketh Williams, who has died at the age of 72.

Williams died on Thursday morning at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, after a period of illness.

Attorney General and Labour Minister, Hon. Sir Steadroy Benjamin praises Williams as having been an extremely intelligent and highly trained labour relations professional.

Sir Steadroy says Williams was always determined to ensure a balance between the interests of employers and employees.

He also calls him a stabilizing factor in peaceful and harmonious labour relations in Antigua and Barbuda during his stint as labour commissioner between 2003 and 2013.

Sir Steadroy also says he invited Williams to serve as a member of the Industrial Court in recent years, a position in which he served with distinction up to his death.

The Labour Minister says the country has lost a man who was respected in all spheres of the society and has extended condolences to Williams’ family.
