ELDERLY WOMAN DIES AFTER BEING BEATEN DURING HOME INVASION

Police have intensified their probe after a 77-year-old woman died in hospital on Sunday, days after being brutally attacked at her home in All Saints. Police confirm Mariete Andersone died on Sunday, January 18, after being beaten by two assailants who broke into her home while she slept on January 12.

She was reportedly robbed of valuables, including jewellery and beaten with a gun by the intruders. She sustained serious injuries, including to her head.

Police say they continue their search for the assailants and assure that the matter is receiving their full attention. Anyone with information which can assist in the police’s investigation, is being asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913.

The Force is also confirming it is carrying out an internal probe following reports from the family that the officers were slow in their response to the home invasion, despite several calls.
