REPARATIONS ADVOCATE CHIDES REFORM UK’S VISA PROPOSAL

Historian and reparations advocate, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles has delivered a blistering response to a proposal to deny United Kingdom visas to people from countries seeking compensation from Britain for the ills of slavery.

The proposal has been outlined by the far-right Reform UK Party, led by Nigel Farage.

Sir Hilary, who is chairman of the Caricom Reparations Commission, has condemned the proposal, saying UK Reform’s opposition to reparations reflects lingering racial inequality and historical bias.
