The Antigua Port Authority is poised to benefit from major infrastructural upgrade and development in the upcoming months.
Prime Minister, the Hon. Gaston Browne on Monday met with officials from the authority and a consultant team to discuss a new Port Development Program.
Port Manager, Darwin Telemaque, who has been on the job for 6 months says a document, is in the hands of Prime Minister Browne detailing the components of the pending state of the art project.
He says the plan has four main areas including the re development of the operational area, which will eliminate congestion and create an area to accommodate larger cruise vessels.
Telemaque says funding will come through a number of avenues to include charity groups, a private entity from Trinidad and the World Bank.
Antigua and Barbuda was also one of two countries selected as a pilot project in April by the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) for assistance where Port Development is concerned.
Telemaque says the overall aim of the project is to transform the port in a to a state of the art facility.
