Police Announce Comprehensive Security Measures and Safety Tips for Carnival 2026 

As Antigua and Barbuda prepares to celebrate Carnival 2026 from July 25 to August 4, the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda is assuring residents and visitors that comprehensive security measures have been implemented to ensure a safe, secure, and enjoyable festival for everyone.

The Police Administration will significantly increase its operational presence leading up to, and throughout the carnival period with enhanced mobile and foot patrols, high-visibility policing, and random stop-and-search operations at major events and venues across the island.

The Police Administration encourages everyone to remain vigilant and to exercise good judgment throughout the carnival season by following these practical safety tips:

▪️︎ Always remain aware of your surroundings and avoid unnecessary risks.

▪️︎ Do not display large amounts of cash or expensive jewellery in public.

▪️︎ Carry only the cash you need and use electronic payment methods whenever possible.

▪️︎ Exercise caution when using Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). Avoid using ATMs late at night, shield your PIN, and never accept assistance from strangers.

▪️︎ Avoid walking alone in isolated or poorly lit areas, particularly after carnival events. Whenever possible, travel in pairs or groups.

▪️︎ Avoid walking while distracted by mobile phones or wearing headphones at high volume.

▪️︎ If attending events with children or elderly relatives, keep them within sight at all times and establish a meeting point in case you become separated.

▪️︎ Secure your home before leaving. Ensure all doors and windows are locked, and leave adequate lighting where possible.

▪️︎ Lock your vehicle at all times and never leave keys inside the ignition.

▪️︎ Do not leave handbags, mobile phones, jewellery, wallets, or other valuables in plain view inside parked vehicles.

▪️︎ Park only in well-lit areas or designated parking facilities and periodically check on your vehicle.

▪️︎ Business owners and vendors should have adequate lighting, security personnel where practical, and secure methods for storing cash and valuables.

▪️︎ Be cautious of counterfeit currency and report any suspected incidents to the police.

▪️︎ If you observe any suspicious behaviour or have information relating to criminal activity, immediately contact the nearest police station or call 911.
