Protesters Clash with Police

Students, parents and trade unions are demonstrating across France, in protest at what they say is under-investment in high schools.

One union says 1,800 high schools are blockaded or closed, with 90% of universities also blockaded – the government says 891 schools across France have classes suspended, either totally or partially. There are protests in more than 30 towns and cities, according to L’Union Étudiante. In Strasbourg, there were scuffles between police and protesters, while in Lyon, a barricade was set on fire.
