Minister for Tourism, Transportation, Civil Aviation and Investment, Hon. Charles Fernandez, has been unanimously elected as chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s Council of Ministers and Commissioners of Tourism.

Minister Fernandez’s election marks the first time in more than 15 years that Antigua and Barbuda has been elected as chair of the region’s principal tourism development organization, placing the twin-island nation at the helm at a defining period for Caribbean tourism.

Minister Fernandez was nominated during the CTO Annual General Meeting by the Minister of Tourism for Anguilla, Hon. Cardigan Connor with the nomination seconded by the Minister of Tourism for Jamaica, Hon. Edmund Bartlett. Minister Fernandez was unanimously elected by his regional colleagues.

He succeeds Barbados Minister of Tourism and International Transport, the Honourable Ian Gooding-Edghill.

Chief Executive Officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin James, also assumes the chairmanship of the CTO Board of Directors, further strengthening Antigua and Barbuda’s leadership presence within the regional organization.
