Prison Boss Calls For Suitable Detention Centre For Remanded Individuals

Persons on remand at Her Majesty’s Prison are taking up space, and are adding to the overcrowding woes at the country’s lone penal institution.

Superintendent of Prison Albert Wade says that there are currently 343 inmates at the prison which includes thirteen females. Of the 330 males some 140 are on remand.

According to the Prison Boss some of the inmates are awaiting sentencing while others are awaiting trial.

Superintendent Wade adds that if the remand numbers at the prison can be reduced then there will be adequate space for convicts.

Because of the vast overcrowding, Superintendent Wade adds that they try as much to separate the various categories of inmates but sometimes un-convicted individuals are placed with convicts.

Meanwhile, there are also three juveniles at Her Majesty’s Prison which is of grave concern to the Superintendent of Prison.
