Government, Local Stakeholders to Develop Fort James Beach Area
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda is to develop the Fort James Beach area, in collaboration with local stakeholders. Cabinet gave its approval to the comprehensive plan for the overhaul of the area, during its meeting on Thursday.
The nation’s executive says the project will be undertaken in a manner that preserves its historical significance, enhances its natural beauty and maximizes economic opportunities for Antiguans and Barbudans.
Cabinet has also backed plans for the reclamation and development of about three acres of government-owned land to create an expanded recreational and entertainment district. This is set to include an amphitheatre.
The government’s decision means a long-standing proposal from Royal Caribbean for a site-themed attraction has been set aside.
