COP 26 RECOGNIZES LOSS AND DAMAGE IN DRAFT AGREEMENT
Now to a developing story from the United Nations Climate Change Summit in Scotland…
A key issue being championed by Antigua and Barbuda and other small island developing states has been included in the draft agreement on today’s final day.
The agreement acknowledges loss and damage suffered by the states most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
Environment Minister Hon. Sir Molwyn Joseph says the high-level negotiations to accomplish this landmark result have been led by the Antigua and Barbuda delegation.
The Minister explains the significance of the inclusion indicating it provides a baseline from which to consult for future financial assistance.
Sir Molwyn says significant levels of work lie ahead to determine how financing will be attributed where losses and damage are indicated.
