DIPLOMAT REVEALS US WANTS A&B TO ACCEPT HIGHER NUMBER OF THIRD-COUNTRY NATIONALS
The United States is asking Antigua and Barbuda to accept more third-country nationals than it has offered to accommodate.
The revelation comes from Antigua and Barbuda’s top diplomat in Washington D.C., Sir Ronald Sanders, who says while those discussions are continuing with the US, accepting large numbers of these individuals from the US would present significant challenges to the twin-island state.
Antigua and Barbuda signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with the US to accept up to twelve of these individuals, whom the US cannot send back to their countries of origin for various reasons.
Sir Ronald insists accepting more of these individuals would not be in Antigua and Barbuda’s interests.
