GOVERNMENT COMMITS TO PROFIT MARGIN INCREASE FOR PETROL DEALERS

Petroleum dealers are to receive an increase in their profit margin before the end of this year.

The commitment was reaffirmed at cabinet’s meeting on Wednesday, amid fresh agitation by the Gas Dealers Association.

Financial Secretary Rasona Davis Crump has been instructed to continue discussions shortly with the service station dealers and to establish a clear path towards implementation of the proposed increase.

The update comes as petrol stations which shuttered their operations on Wednesday resumed service Thursday, restoring normality in the crucial distributive trade.

The dealers say they receive $1.08 as a margin on every gallon of gasoline and $0.95 on diesel, but insist an increased margin is overdue, amid rising costs.
