GOVERNOR GENERAL TO DECIDE ON REMISSION OF PRISON SENTENCES

The process for reducing prisoners’ sentences for good behaviour is being changed.

Cabinet has amended the prison rule 211, with the Governor General to consider recommendations from the Prison Superintendent for the remission of sentences.

However, the change will only affect new prisoners and will not be retroactive.
