Health Officials Step Up Fogging Amidst Dengue Concerns
The Central Board of Health has once again stepped up fogging exercises amid dengue concerns.
Chief Health Inspector Lionel Michael is reminding residents that they too have their role to play in mosquito control.
Michael says of particular concern is the female aedes aegypti mosquito, which can transmit the dengue and chikungunya viruses.
He says these mosquitoes have a tendency to lay their eggs in clean water, such as what is stored around homes.
Michael adds that residents must ensure that they keep water catchments covered and dispose of any waste containers that could be a potential breeding area for the mosquito.
The chief health inspector says the health department, over the past few weeks, has been doing its part to boost mosquito control. He says the mosquito index is very high in the south area.
