Medical Fraternity Mourns the Death of Pioneering Surgeon Dr Cuthwin Lake

The Medical Association of Antigua and Barbuda Inc. has joined in paying glowing tributes to Dr Sir Cuthwin Lake, who died last night at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, aged 96.

The executive team of the MAAB says Dr Lake “was more than a surgeon; he was a pioneer who represented the very essence of progress in our healthcare system.”

The MAAB also reflects on his service as the Medical Superintendent of Holberton Hospital in the 1990s, during which he guided the facility through transformative changes. Dr Lake also served as chief of surgery, maintaining the highest standards of surgical care and mentored a generation of Caribbean physicians.

The MAAB says, “His impact on the medical landscape of Antigua and Barbuda is immeasurable, and his loss is felt deeply by all who strive to uphold the excellence he championed.”
