PM Browne Talks CHOGM, Climate and Cooperation at Major Summit
Prime Minister the Right Honourable Gaston Browne has outlined his vision for a more effective Commonwealth capable of influencing global decisions on climate finance, debt, trade, sustainable development and other key issues.
He made the comments while participating in the Global Citizen Now Summit in Perth, Australia, where he again called for urgent international action on climate change.
The head of government maintained that climate justice requires the world’s major emitters and international financial institutions to acknowledge their responsibilities and provide meaningful support to countries bearing the greatest consequences of climate change.
Prime Minister Browne was a panellist in a high-level fireside discussion under the theme “The cost of complacency.”
As incoming Commonwealth chair-in-office, the prime minister identified affordable development financing, renewable energy and greater opportunities for young people among his priorities.
He has also committed to working with King Charles, Commonwealth leaders and other international partners to mobilise investment and strengthen cooperation.
Prime Minister Browne emphasised that the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda presents an important opportunity to demonstrate the Commonwealth’s relevance through practical initiatives and measurable development outcomes.
