Prime Minister Browne: Antigua and Barbuda Will Not Choose Between China and U.S.

Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Gaston Browne says Antigua & Barbuda will continue to strengthen its relationship with China while maintaining its longstanding ties with the United States.

Browne says closer cooperation with China is important to the country’s development, particularly in areas such as technology, healthcare, education, and renewable energy. He also says Antigua and Barbuda should be free to pursue development opportunities with both countries and should not be drawn into geopolitical tensions between Washington and Beijing. The Prime Minister also warned that prolonged conflict between China and the United States could have serious implications for small states like Antigua & Barbuda, whose economic interests are linked to both countries.

Browne was speaking at a reception marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Tuesday.
