‘THAT LITTLE GIRL’S NAME IS JAMILLA MONIQUE’ – INDEPENDENT SENATOR REVEALS CHILDHOOD ABUSE

Independent Senator Jamilla Kirwan has revealed she was sexually abused as a child.

The poignant moment came during debate on the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill in Parliament’s Upper House on Tuesday.

Senator Kirwan recounted that the only sense of justice came years later, when she learned through a newspaper report that the man had been found dead in a gutter, from a heart attack.

She described the lasting impact of abuse, as she called for a broad societal response to protect the nation’s children.
