‘Treat Monitoring Buoys as National Asset’ – Met Office

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service is reminding all mariners and other members of the public of the importance of three monitoring buoys that were recently deployed in waters around Antigua and Barbuda.

One of the marine equipment was discovered missing over the weekend and was subsequently located on Barbuda, and retrieved largely intact.

Director of the Met Service, Dale Destin, is appealing to anyone who may come into contact with any of these three monitoring buoys to leave it undisturbed, or report any unusual activity to the Met Service.

He says they should be treated as an important national asset, and should not be moved, tampered with, or interfered with.

The data collected by the buoys are critical to improving the understanding of marine conditions and strengthening the reliability and accuracy of weather and marine forecasts.
