FORMER US VICE PRESIDENT, WALTER MONDALE, DEAD AT 93

In 1976 he ran as Jimmy Carters running mate, securing the bid for the White House. He served as Jimmy Carter’s Vice President between 1977 and 1981. The duo lost to Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush in 1980. 

Mondale later won the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1984, also making history by nominating the first female as a Presidential running mate, but sadly loosing again to Reagan. 

He later served as both the Special Envoy to Indonesia and Ambassador to Japan, under Bill Clinton. 

Born in Ceylon, Minnesota, on Jan. 5, 1928, Walter Frederick Mondale was the sixth of seven children. His father was a Methodist minister, his mother a music teacher.
