EDITH OLADELE SPEAKS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF AFRICA REPATRIATION MOVEMENT.

Africa Day is celebrated each day on May 25.
This year, it is being commemorated under the theme “Arts, Culture, and Heritage: Levers for building the Africa we want”.
The day provides an opportunity to recite and extol the political & socio-economic achievements of African governments and African citizens worldwide.
90% of Antigua and Barbuda’s citizenry comprises people of African descent. As such, it is an important day for most Antiguans and Barbudans. So says Founder of the African Slavery Memorial Society Edith Oladele.
Although Africa Day seeks to celebrate liberation from slavery, Oladele opines the fight for liberation is not yet over.

She says a group of people from 6 islands around the region to date inclusive of Antigua and Barbuda have joined to form the Caribbean Diaspora Repatriation Movement which aims to facilitate the return of Afro-Caribbean nationals to the homeland.

Oladele says there is not yet a timeline on repatriation efforts but there has been an abundance of interest.
