SUCCESSFUL CATARACT SURGERY CLINIC HOSTED BY SLBMC

Scores of residents now have improved sight after one hundred and seven cataract surgeries were successfully carried at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.

The surgeries were carried out over five days late last month and involved a surgeon, Dr. Ronnie Bhola from Trinidad Eye Hospital, along with ophthalmologist at SLBMC, Dr. Osama Dias and his team.

The hospital’s Medical Director, Dr. Albert Duncan says cataracts are one of the leading causes of blindness which can be corrected with a 15-minute operation.

He says this is why the Health Ministry is committed to working with partners to enhance the level of care available to the community.

Dr. Duncan is looking forward to the next cataract surgery clinic as many patients are still awaiting this life-changing surgery.
