WIND GUSTS REACH 56MPH FROM STRENGTHENING FIONA; STORM’S CENTRE MOVING AWAY

Tropical Storm Fiona has restrengthened as at 11pm on Friday, but its centre is now southwest of Antigua. It is now packing sustained winds of 60 miles per hour, up from 50mph in the 8pm bulletin. The centre is now 38 miles southwest of Antigua and moving away at 14 miles per hour. So far, winds of 56 miles per hour have been confirmed at Bethesda in Antigua, while maximum wind speeds of 50mph have been confirmed in Barbuda.
Both islands have reported strong sustained winds and gusts, resulting in several areas being left without power. Rainfall from the system is expected to increase early Saturday morning, but the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services has moderated expectations for the amount of rainfall from the cyclone. They are forecasting between 1 and 4 inches over the area between now and Sunday.
