GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES AMNESTY FOR ARREARS TO APUA, HOSPITAL AND FOR PROPERTY TAXES
The government has announced a new package of relief measures which it says is to help residents recover from the financial fall-out from the COVID-19 pandemic.
These include amnesties for outstanding electricity and water bills to the Antigua Public Utilities Authority, as well as unpaid hospital bills at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
The Inland Revenue Department will also forgive outstanding property taxes.
The waiver on arrears for electricity and water to the APUA, applies to amounts owed up to December 31, 2021.
Customers benefitting from the amnesty will be reconnected by November 1, 2022 if they pay the current month’s bill.
Unpaid property taxes up to December 31, 2021 will also be included in the amnesty programme, but these property owners must pay the current year’s tax.
Citizens and residents with outstanding hospital bills of more than 180 days will also have the balance wiped off.
