Customs Records an Increase on Imports
New figures at the Customs and Excise Division are showing an increase in imports of upwards of 2.7 million dollars in revenue at the end of March and there of positive projections for next month.
Comptroller of Customs, Raju Buddu, says that despite the abolition of the embarkation tax, the port have been able to maintain recommendable yields through strategic actions.
The closure of the tax represents a loss of close to five million dollars per annum.
The Comptroller of Customs says that the focus is on trade facilitation as a means of growing revenue and adds that the spinoff is twofold.
The Department of Customs is considered a major contributor to the country’s revenue basket.
