MAN SENTENCED FOR MILITARY-STYLE RIFLE, AMMUNITION
Akini Walker will spend the next four years and four months behind bars for the possession of an FN rifle and 18 rounds of 7.62 rounds of ammunition.
Senior Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel handed down the sentence for the firearm possession charge on Wednesday morning. She also handed down a two-year sentence for the ammunition charge, but both sentences are to run concurrently.
The 27-year-old Walker had pleaded guilty last week to possession of the rifle and ammunition. Prosecutors called the weapon a ‘battle rifle’ and said no vest in Antigua could stop a bullet from it.
The illegal items were found when law enforcers executed a search warrant at his home in Cassada Gardens on June 1.
Prosecutors say Walker made a failed attempt to jump through a window during the police operation.
