WEATHER FORECAST

ALL EYES ON AL97 IN THE ATLANTIC

Published

on

Residents are being urged to pay attention to the development of tropical disturbance AL97 in the Atlantic.

Director of the Antigua Barbuda Meteorological Services, Dale Destin, reports the system has a 70% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 48hrs and a 90% chance over the next 7 days. This means AL97 could turn into a tropical depression or storm by this time next week.

Models, however, project its path will take it toward the North and will likely stay North of the islands of the Leeward Islands, although Destin says we are not totally in the clear.

He urges citizens and residents to monitor the system closely as it is fairly organized. The good news is that it is now being suppressed by Saharan dust, inhibiting its development, but Destin reports AL97 will soon find more favourable conditions.
