SIR STEADROY BENJAMIN EAGER FOR A&B TO TRANSITION TO A REPUBLIC

Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin says his big mission for 2026 is to push the country toward transitioning to a republic.

He also wants Antigua and Barbuda to finally move its apex court from the London-based Judicial Committee of the Privy Council to the Caribbean Court of Justice.

Earlier this month, both houses of Parliament approved legislation changing the oath of allegiance, so public officials swear allegiance to the state of Antigua and Barbuda, instead of the king, his heirs and successors.

Sir Steadroy says the country is ready for the next step in the reform agenda.
