LIAT Seeks Specific Aircraft For Barbuda Route; No Timeline For Service Resumption

LIAT Air says it is still searching for a feasible option to restore its airbridge between mainland Antigua and the sister isle of Barbuda.
The Antigua-based carrier says rising fuel costs and difficulty sourcing a suitable aircraft have stalled efforts to reopen the route.
The airline had previously operated the Barbuda service, but this was grounded due to unprofitably low passenger numbers.
LIAT Air had intended to resume flights this year using smaller, more cost-efficient aircraft, but Chief Executive Officer, Hafsah Abdulsalam, says it has not been able to find any that meet both technical and budgetary requirements.
She says her team still actively searching the market for two suitable aircraft, one for the service and a back-up in the event of mechanical issues.
