PM BROWNE URGES RESIDENTS TO GET REGULAR EYE EXAMINATIONS

Prime Minister the Right Honourable Gaston Browne is encouraging residents to take advantage of expanded eye care services being introduced in Antigua and Barbuda, as the government seeks to reduce preventable blindness.

The head of government says too many people live with undetected vision problems, and early screening and treatment can make a significant difference in preserving eye health.

Prime Minister Browne is therefore urging citizens and residents to make regular eye examinations a routine part of their healthcare.

He was speaking on Thursday at the launch of the Prime Minister’s Vision Initiative.

As part of the first phase, residents aged 40 and over will be able to access vision screenings at designated clinics.

Twenty-five thousand pairs of reading glasses will be distributed to people with presbyopia, a common age-related condition that makes it difficult to see things up close.

Those with other vision problems will be referred for further care.
