MET Office Tracks Two Areas of Disturbed Weather in The Atlantic

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service is closely monitoring two tropical waves in the Eastern Atlantic, which could impact the Caribbean in the coming days.

The National Hurricane Centre says an area of showers and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave is located about 950 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands (shown in red).

Environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for development during the next couple of days, and a tropical depression will likely form while the system moves westward to west-north-westward across the central tropical Atlantic.

The area, called AL92, has an 80% chance of formation through 48 hours and an equal chance of development through the next seven days.

Forecasters are also monitoring a tropical wave located several hundred miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

Environmental conditions are forecast to be generally conducive for some development of this system during the next several days.

The Atlantic Hurricane Season is nearing its peak period of late August into early September.
